Earth Day - Starting our garden!

Well, we have started our vegetable garden for this summer. These cones are great - they allow you to start your garden about 6-8 weeks earlier. They work like little individual green houses. We planted some tomatoes, squash and jalepeno peppers. The red onions and garlic are already coming in and they don't mind the cooler weather.

DiBruno Bros in Philly

Ever go to DiBruno Bros in downtown Philly? It's at Chestnut and 18th St. They make some pretty amazing food! I discovered this salad last summer and have figured out on my own how to make it. It's actually a small round pasta!

ISRAELI (Pearl) COUSCOUS

1 cup Israeli Couscous
1-1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp Canola Oil
1 tsp curry powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 cup toasted almonds
1/4 cup dried cranberries
1/4 diced red pepper
1/4 cup dried apricots, cut into quarters
basil or cilantro leaves (whichever you prefer)

Saute couscous in oil for a minute or two. Add curry, salt and pepper. Toast for a minute or two. Add water and bring to a boil - reduce heat and simmer 10 min covered.

Add remaining ingredients except for basil (or cilantro) and almonds. Stir those in just before serving. I just throw in a handful of basil or cilantro. I mostly use the basil in the summer when I grow it and cilantro in the winter that I purchase at the store. Give it a try!

About 4 servings. Serve warm, cold or at room temp. Great with grilled chicken or fish.

DELISH!

Cinnamon Spice

Well, it's been a while, once again, since I have posted anything. I have to admit that I have been enjoying the beautiful weather. We have been in the 60's and 70's lately and all the snow is gone!

I've also been working on this piece off and on as time allowed. This was a lot of wrapping individual beads so it took quite a while. Plus, small town living has it's downfalls at times. Sometimes when I get to working on a piece I will discover that I need something I don't have. I then have to try to find it on-line or wait until the next time we head down to the Valley (Phoenix).

After the snow melted we cleaned up the yard and are getting it ready for spring and summer! Some of bulbs are starting to pop up! I can't wait to see some beautiful color!

GREAT NEWS!

My Green Goddess necklace has been selected to be in the July 2011 issue of Bead Trends magazine!

I have to sit down today and write out exactly how it was made and what supplies were used to make the necklace. I also have to mail it off to them so they can photograph it for the magazine.

VERY EXCITING!

For the Cure!

It has been a while since I've been on here. We've been busy working and I have been trying to be better about riding my stationary bike. I have committed to 1 hour a day. Whew! It's tough.

I've also been busy beading. Ideas come here and there and I run with them! Unfortunately I'm not the type to just sit down and look at my boxes of beads and make something. I have to have an idea floating around up there first.

These little beauties, "Cotton Candy", were donated to a friend I work with. She was having a silent auction trying to raise funds for her Susan G Komen 3-day For the Cure walk. She was able to raise all the money she needed. GO KIM!
